BDHF hoping to recruit new trustees

One of the country’s leading dental charities is hoping to recruit up to four new people to join its Board of Trustees, which oversees the development and continuing strategy of the charity and its work.

For more than 40 years, the British Dental Health Foundation has been devoted to improving people’s lives by reducing the arm of ultimately preventable oral diseases. They’ve ran successful, and recognisable, campaigns such as National Smile Month and Mouth Cancer Action Month to raise important issues and reach millions of people. It acts as an authoritative voice on issues such as tobacco, alcohol and sugar and has helped to form major nationwide health policies.

Chair and President, Dr Tony Newton, said: “We’re looking to recruit new trustees who can become the next generation for an organisation that for over forty years has educated the public, parliament and the media about oral health issues including HPV, tobacco, alcohol, mouth cancer and tooth whitening, as well as the more everyday topics of tooth decay, gum disease and wisdom teeth.

“We particularly encourage interest from those who are looking to become a trustee for the first time, but who might have been put off applying for such a role because of their lack of governance experience: we all have to start somewhere, and we’ll provide all the training you need in return for the relatively small time commitment of between six and ten days a year.

“Having been a trustee of the British Dental Health Foundation on and off for some thirty years, I can tell you that it can be both challenging and hugely rewarding. If you feel you might have something to offer, please do get in touch with us to find out more.”

If you are interested in becoming a trustee of the British Dental Health Foundation, a candidate briefing pack containing more information can be found on the charity’s website, where an application form can also be located.

For informal discussions about the role, you can contact the British Dental Health Foundation’s Director of Operations, Sharon Broom by telephone on 01788 539 781 or email
