Intraoral welding is a ground breaking new method of implant placement based on a resistance spot welding principle and this technique now has its first UK ambassador.
Dr Peter Sanders passed a rigorous process to become the UK ambassador for the method, chosen personally by Dr Marco Degidi, who has researched and developed intraoral welding for the last 15-20 years.
Dr Degidi based his decision on Dr Sanders’ excellent case record and follows the UK dentist becoming the first dentist in the country to practise this technique in 2013.
Developed in association with Dentsply’s WeldOne Concept and Welding Unit, the intraoral welding method enables the immediate loading of a fixed prosthesis to be supported by an intraorally welded titanium framework.
The concept has been proved to shorten treatment time and increase precision, which consequently improves the overall success rate of implant placement. Although in its infancy, there is interest worldwide in the technology and Dr Sanders’ role as UK ambassador allows him to train and mentor those wishing to practise the new method of implant placement.
He said: “It is a great pleasure to be named the first UK Ambassador for the intraoral welding concept. To learn a ground breaking technique is one thing, to master it is another. To be recognised and invited to train others is both exciting and flattering – furthermore it offers me the motivation to excel in this particular field.”
